Merri Health Journal
Publication design / Co-design workshops / Content organisation
Merri Health creates healthy, connected communities through local health services for people at every age and stage of life.
Merri Health are a not-for-profit community health organisation that has been part of the community for over 40 years.
Brief
Merri Health, a disability and healthcare provider, wanted a journal that would assist their carers in their roles and in the planning of their day-to-day lives. Merri Health also wanted to promote and support their carers’ well-being through an innovative co-design and creative process.
Approach
As the product was for their carers’ benefit, involving them in the design process was vitally important for the success of the project. This required an approach that went way beyond a standard questionnaire and answer process. Merri Health worked with the design team from Blick Creative to create a co-design environment that incorporated storytelling, expressive drawing and other visual and communication exercises.
Result
For this project, we used the workshop participants’ artwork, drawing, words, mind-maps and storytelling to create the final design. The design had to be on brand, but we could stretch it to incorporate participant responses. We ended up structuring the journal contents into three overarching sections – physical, mental and emotional – making it easier for the end user to find what they need. It has been an immensely rewarding design project.
